BIG YANK | Y1944 HBT SHIRT
The "Y1944 HBT SHIRT" is based on a 1940s vintage BIG YANK shirt from Mr. Yutaka Fujihara's personal archive.
Set against the backdrop of World War II, the original vintage piece utilized a high-density, clearly defined herringbone twill. It is believed to have used the same greige fabric as the USMC HBT (herringbone twill) of that era.
To recreate this material, we replicated everything from the thread quality to the twist. For the dyeing, we used vat dyes to achieve a deep, purplish-navy hue known as "eggplant navy." Through repeated wear and washing, the fabric will develop abrasions and the characteristic fading unique to vintage garments.
The silhouette is designed with a relaxed fit, featuring wider shoulders and a broader body, making it versatile enough to be worn as a shirt-jacket. The sleeves are also cut wider, resulting in a balanced, spacious feel throughout.
The collar edge features single-needle topstitching, faithfully reproducing the details of the era.
From the materials and color to the construction, this garment is infused with Mr. Yutaka Fujihara's meticulous attention to detail. It retains the rugged atmosphere of a work shirt while serving as a high-quality piece that a sophisticated man can wear daily.
