17th-century lore tells of Anne Marie, Princess of Nerola in Italy, who started a trend by using essential oil extracted from bitter orange blossoms to scent her skin, gloves, and even her clothes.
The fragrance of these flowers was so captivating that, in time, it came to be known as "Neroli," named after the Princess herself.
